Frequently Asked Questions

No. Many of our members work part-time, have flexible work schedules, or work from home. In fact over half our membership are working moms. Whether you work part-time, full-time, stay-at-home we have a lot of activities for you to participate in.

WHAT ARE THE MOMS IN YOUR CLUB LIKE?

Meeting new people can be intimidating – but not us, we promise!  We are a very down-to-earth, caring, and welcoming group of moms. Some of us have just had our first baby and others have teenagers. One thing we all have in common is a strong commitment to raising our kids the very best way we can and supporting each other through the process.

WHAT AGES ARE YOUR KIDS?

Our kids range in age from newborn to teenagers. However, the majority of our activities are geared toward kids who are newborn to five years old. Kids of all ages are always welcome at every event.

HOW DO YOU BREAK DOWN AGES FOR PLAY GROUPS?

We leave this one up to the host. You may specify an age group or you can choose not to. Typically, most hosts do not specify an age group, but the most common specified is infant (0-12 months).

HOW DO I HOST A PLAY GROUP?

On the 15th of the month our Calendar Coordinator makes a post on Facebook to schedule playdates for the next month. You would pick your location, either your home, park, or family friendly location and pick a time and date that would not conflict with any other member's event.  Once our Calendar Coordinator receives all events she will compile it into a calendar that is released on the 25th of the month.  After that you will be able to make a Facebook event so members can RSVP to your play group.  If you need to set a maximum number you’d like to have in your home due to limited space or seating, just add that note in your Facebook event description.

I HAVE A TODDLER AND AN INFANT, AM I ALLOWED TO COME TO THE TODDLER PLAY GROUP WITH BOTH CHILDREN?

Yes.  Siblings are ALWAYS welcome at all MOMS club functions.  For example, if you’re attending a playgroup that is scheduled for Infants, it’s you’re responsibility as the parent to watch your older child as the host may not have the home child proofed for that age.   Same would go for bringing your infant along to a Pre-school play group. The host may have small toys not appropriate for an infant, but it’s the parents’ responsibility to keep an eye on their children.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE PLANNED FOR THE MONTH?

We use our private Facebook page to post a calendar each month. Through this site you can RSVP and get details or directions for events.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND A MINIMUM NUMBER OF ACTIVITES EVERY MONTH?

No. You can participate in as many or as few activities as you like. Of course, we want to see as many members as possible at all of our activities, but we understand that life happens! Changing schedules, work and family commitments, illness, etc. can affect availability at any given time. We do encourage active participation to develop meaningful relationships among our moms and our kids.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION?

No. We are a non-religious group.

DO I HAVE TO RSVP FOR AN ACTIVITY OR EVENT?

If you plan to attend the event, yes, you are required to RSVP so that the event host knows who to expect. Sometimes events get canceled when no one RSVPs. You may change your RSVP at any time.

DO YOUR ACTIVITIES COST MONEY?

The majority of our monthly activities are free. Occasionally we will have an activity on the calendar that costs money.

WHO ORGANIZES AND HOSTS YOUR ACTIVITIES?

Our MOMS do! Currently, we have 9 assigned coordinator positions, each run by a member of our club. The coordinators are responsible for scheduling or hosting the activity and are the main point of contact for that activity. We also have a Fundraising/Service Project Committee and Party Planning Committee with multiple members working together. Anyone can join these Committees if they are interested.

WHY ARE THERE MEMBERSHIP DUES?

A minimum of 85% of the membership dues we collect go toward our fundraising efforts and service projects for local charities as well as operating costs.  No more than 15% is used to support the group's parties and services for members. Because we are a non-profit charity, membership dues are tax deductible.

WHAT IS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP?

An associate member has a reduced membership fee of $20. They are only able to attend MNO and weekend events during majority of the year with the exception of June, July, and August they may attend all events. Associate members are non-voting, which means they are not allowed to participate in budget votes, board member votes, and any other voting opportunities. They cannot serve on the Executive Board.

APART FROM MEMBERSHIP DUES, ARE THERE ANY OTHER FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS?

No. There are no other financial obligations associated with MOMS Club membership.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE CHARITIES AND SERVICE PROJECTS YOU SUPPORT?

Our Vice President is our leader on service projects, fundraising efforts, and charities.  We strive to complete 5-6 service projects a year and 2 fundraisers. Our only requirement per Article 2 Section 1.d. of the bylaws is "to complete at least one charitable, humanitarian, or social welfare project related to children each year.

WHO LEADS YOUR CLUB?

We are led by an Executive Board of six volunteer members who are elected by the club. The Exectuive Board includes the President, Administrative Vice President, Treasurer, Membership Vice President, Secretary, and Senior Consultant. We also have other non-board positions: sunshine coordinator who sets up meal trains for mothers who are expecting, relative deaths or sickness. Snack coordinator who is responsible for refreshments at our Club Connection meeting each other. Calendar coordinator who makes and distributes out monthly calendar of activities. Moms Night Out Coordinator who is responsible for setting up and hosting 1 moms night out a month.  Our club wouldn’t exist without the efforts of all our wonderful volunteer MOMS!

WHY IS THE ‘MOMS’ IN MOMS CLUB CAPITALIZED?

MOMS stands for Moms Offering Moms Support and is also a Registered Trade mark.

I HAVE A PERSONAL OR MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING BUSINESS, CAN I ADVERTISE TO THE MEMBERS?

No. We ask that you don’t use your membership as a platform to meet new potential clients.  We do wish to support your efforts to support your family so we have a Promote your Business Event page on Facebook where you may promote your business   Please don't reach out to your newly acquired MOMS club friends and ask them to attend parties or events relating to your business that is not really what the club is about.

HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO PAY DUES?

Yearly, on the month you joined each year.  Our Treasurer will reach out to you to collect dues each year on your anniversary month.

IF I MOVE FROM CLIFTON PARK AREA, CAN I KEEP MY MEMBERSHIP?

Yes. If you move out of the area you can keep your membership until your renewal date, at which time you can choose to renew and stay with our chapter, or you can choose to join (or start) a chapter within your new area.  A list of other active clubs can be found on MOMSCLUB.ORG
