Frequently Asked Questions

DO I HAVE TO BE A STAY-AT-HOME MOM?

No. Many of our members work part-time, have flexible work schedules, or work from home. If you spend time with your kids during the day, then we have a lot of activities for you to participate in.  We also have an Associate Membership for MOMS with school aged children or those MOMS who moved back into a full time work but would like to stay part of a club for the kid free activities.

WHAT DO MNO, MNI, JUMP, AND CNO STAND FOR?

MNO- MOMS Night Out- These are held once a month and vary from restaurants, trivia nights… we try to change things up often.

MNI – MOMS Night In- For the occasions a member would like to host a night in at her home. Bunco, games, wine and cheese, fondue…

JUMP- Just Us MOMS Playing- These are typically held during daytime hours while they kids are in school.  We typically meet for coffee, brunch or lunch, mani/ pedis, matinee movies… Non walking infants are welcome to these outings.

CNO- Couples Night Out!

WHAT ARE THE MOMS IN YOUR CLUB LIKE?

Meeting new people can be intimidating – but not us, we promise!  We are a very down-to-earth, caring, and welcoming group of moms. We range in age from our late-20's to mid-40's. Some of us have just had our first baby and others have teenagers. One thing we all have in common is a strong commitment to raising our kids the very best way we can and supporting each other through the process.

WHAT AGES ARE YOUR KIDS?

Our kids range in age from newborn to teenagers. However, the majority of our activities are geared toward kids who are newborn to five years old. Kids of all ages are always welcome at every event.

HOW DO YOU BREAK DOWN AGES FOR PLAY GROUPS?

We leave this one up to the host. Typically Infant playgroups are 0-12 month, Toddler 12-36 months, pre-school 3-5 year and school age would be 5years and up. The host is able to set the ages. I.e. “I’m hosting a 2 year old play group and siblings are welcome. Please note that there may be choking hazards and we have a dog who will be outside. Feel free to bring a small snack, I’ll supply the coffee and juice”

HOW DO I HOST A PLAY GROUP?

Pick your location, either your home, park, or family friendly location, pick your time.  Easy.  You are not required to set out snacks but it’s not uncommon to have some goldfish or something from your pantry out for the kids.  If you need to set a maximum number you’d like to have in your home due to limited space or seating, just add that note.  Play groups with limits are first come and if you cannot attend, be sure to change your RSVP.

I HAVE A TODDLER AND AN INFANT, AM I ALLOWED TO COME TO THE TODDLER PLAY GROUP WITH BOTH CHILDREN?

Yes.  Siblings are ALWAYS welcome at all MOMS club functions.  For example, if you’re attending a playgroup that is scheduled for Infants, it’s you’re responsibility as the parent to watch your older child as the host may not have the home child proofed for that age.   Same would go for bringing your infant along to a Pre-school play group… the host may have small toys not appropriate for an infant but again it’s the parents’ responsibility to keep an eye on their children.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE PLANNED FOR THE MONTH?

We use Ezorg.com to post our schedule. Through this site you can RSVP and get details or directions for events. We also use a private Facebook Group where you can always find our monthly calendar ‘pinned’ to the top of the page.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND A MINIMUM NUMBER OF ACTIVITES EVERY MONTH?

No. You can participate in as many or as few activities as you like. Of course, we want to see as many members as possible at all of our activities, but we understand that life happens! Changing schedules, work and family commitments, illness, etc. can affect availability at any given time. We do encourage active participation to develop meaningful relationships among our moms and our kids.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION?

No. We are a non-religious group.

DO I HAVE TO RSVP FOR EVERY ACTIVITY?

No. We only ask you to RSVP if you plan to attend an event, so the event coordinator knows to expect you and keeps an eye out for you.  Changing your RSVP is very easy since Facebook and ezorg.com can be accessed with your mobile device.

DO YOUR ACTIVITES COST MONEY?

The majority of our monthly activities are free. Occasionally we will have an activity on the calendar that costs money, but we understand the financial sacrifice that being an at-home mom can mean for your family, so we try to keep activities that cost money to a minimum.

WHO ORGANIZES AND HOSTS YOUR ACTICITES?

Our MOMS do! Currently, we have 9 assigned coordinator positions, each run by a member of our club. The coordinators are responsible for scheduling or hosting the activity and are the main point of contact for that activity. We also have a Fundraising/Service Project Committee and Party Planning Committee with multiple members working together. Anyone can join these Committees if they are interested.

WHY ARE THERE MEMBERSHIP DUES?

A minimum of 85% of the membership dues we collect go toward our fundraising efforts and service projects for local charities as well as operating costs.  No more than 15% is used to support the group's parties and services for members. Because we are a non-profit charity, membership dues are tax deductible.

WHAT IS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP?

Associate Membership are $15 per year.  It includes the kid free day-time activities JUMPs, MNO/MNI, freezer meal swap, book club, and all family functions.  We also include the regular outings while the kids are out of school during the summer.

APART FROM MEMBERSHIP DUES, ARE THERE ANY OTHER FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS?

No. There are no other financial obligations associated with MOMS Club membership.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE CHARITIES AND SERVICE PROJECTS YOU SUPPORT?

Our members vote for the charities we support.  At the beginning of our calendar year, we vote for a charity to be the focus of our fundraising efforts for the year.  Our Fundraising/Service Project Committee also organize a number of community drives and service projects throughout the year, and we support MOMS Club International's Mother-to-Mother Fund, which helps members in crisis situations and in need of financial assistance.

WHO LEADS YOUR CLUB?

We are led by a Board of five volunteer members who are elected by the club. The Board includes the President, Administrative Vice President, Treasurer, Membership Vice President, and Secretary.  Board members serve for a maximum of two years in their position.  We also have other coordinator/chair positions, each responsible for leading a specific activity.  These positions are all listed in the Monthly Newsletter.  Anyone interested in volunteering for any of these positions is welcome to reach out to get more information!  Our club wouldn’t exist without the efforts of all our wonderful volunteer MOMS!

WHY IS THE ‘MOMS’ IN MOMS CLUB CAPITALIZED?

MOMS stands for Moms Offering Moms Support and is also a Registered Trade mark.

WHAT CAN BE FOUND IN THE NEWSLETTER?

Our newsletter is packed full of useful information.  You’ll be able to find contact info for the board and the chair members, a letter from someone on our board with details about upcoming events and current news, our monthly calendar, anniversaries, birthdays, new members, book club info, kids cooking club info, and our Personal Business Reference Page.

I HAVE A PERSONAL OR MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING BUSINESS, CAN I ADVERTISE TO THE MEMBERS?

No. We ask that you don’t use your membership as a platform to meet new potential clients.  We do wish to support your efforts to support your family so if you wish you can add your information to our Personal Business Reference Page.  I.e. Jane Doe- Beachcore Representative, 518-555-5555.  Please don't reach out to your newly acquired MOMS club friends , and ask them to attend parties or events, that's not really what the club is about.

HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO PAY DUES?

Yearly. Membership is offered on an annual basis.  We add your name to our Anniversary section of the newsletter when you’re year is up and to renew, you would send your dues into our treasurer again.

IF I MOVE FROM CLIFTON PARK AREA, CAN I KEEP MY MEMBERSHIP?

Yes. If you move out of the area you can keep your membership until your renewal date, at which time you can choose to renew and stay with our chapter, or you can choose to join (or start) a chapter within your new area.  A list of other active clubs can be found on MOMSCLUB.ORG
